For this assignment I chose to shoot city scape from a higher elevation as well as one portrait of a classmate. I learned that shooting in the bright sun can cause some challenges but can also create beautiful photographs. Mainly I noticed that the bright sun created deep shadows in the foreground and warm and intense colours where the ground and sky met. I found that adjusting my ISO allowed me to prevent overexposure/underexposure and it took several adjustments to get it right. The other challenge that I faced was the weather because we had a limited number of sunny days over the past week. I would like to explore the city as I become more comfortable her and find better areas to capture sunsets and sunrises.
In my portrait, I attempted to capture the warm glow of the sun on Lily’s face as it set. The sun did give a warm glow to her face outlined by her dark hair but I think that she blended into the background a bit too much. I would have also liked to address the shadow from her nose but the sun was setting rapidly. This made me realize what a short window of time there is if you plan to shoot at this time of day.
